Active participation in professional supervision is a core practice standard for Social Workers, as outlined in the Practice Standards (AASW, 2013).

Social Work supervision makes a pivotal contribution toward enhancing professional skills, engaging in professional learning and ensuring quality, ethical and accountable services as per AASW Practice Standards. Accredited Social Workers require a minimum of 10 hours professional supervision per financial year.

Professional Social Work supervision aims to solidify practice frameworks, understanding of theories, addressing ethical dilemmas and professional integrity and development.

With Grace Therapy staff are accredited social workers with the AASW and maintain membership and accreditation yearly. Some of our Social Workers are Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and can support you in your Accredited Mental Health Social Work applications.

General FAQs About Supervision

Supervision is a structured space to reflect on your practice, strengthen your skills and feel supported in complex work in social work or human services. It can include case reflection, ethical decision-making, professional identity, boundaries, risk, documentation, workplace dynamics and practitioner wellbeing.

We provide supervision for social workers, mental health clinicians, counsellors, allied health professionals, NDIS support coordinators, support workers, youth workers, case managers and professionals working across the human services sector.

This includes people working in mental health, disability, aged care, child and family services, eating disorders, health, hospital, education, housing, private practice and community settings.

Individual supervision is available in person at Kedron and Caloundra, as well as online across Australia.

Individual supervision is a good fit if you want a confidential space to reflect on your own practice, build confidence, explore complex client work, prepare for accreditation or receive tailored support around your professional goals.

Yes, we offer team and group supervision which can be provided by request for organisations, teams and professionals.

Group supervision offers a shared reflective space where workers can learn from each other, explore practice challenges, risk, vicarious trauma, boundaries, staff burnout, strengthen confidence and build a more consistent approach across a team.

Group supervision can help organisations strengthen practice quality, reduce staff overwhelm and create a shared approach to complex work.

It can support teams to reflect safely, manage risk, strengthen boundaries, improve communication, reduce burnout, navigate complexity, support ethical practice, build staff confidence and improve consistency.

Individual supervision focuses on your own practice, goals, learning needs and professional development.

Group supervision brings people together to reflect, learn and problem-solve as a group. It can be especially useful for teams working with complexity, risk, burnout, high emotional load or shared practice challenges.

Many people benefit from a combination of both.

We have an incredible team of experienced Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and Supervisors who can support social workers working towards Accredited Mental Health Social Worker status.

Supervision may include support with mental health practice reflection, focused psychological strategies, case examples, professional identity and understanding application requirements.

Professional supervision may support CPD, registration or accreditation requirements, depending on your profession and membership body.

All supervision delivered by our social workers for social workers will count towards your required 10 hours of supervision each year.

We recommend checking your specific requirements with your professional association. We can provide documentation of supervision attendance where required.

No, supervision is not therapy.

Supervision may include reflection on emotional responses, stress, burnout and the impact of client work, but the focus remains on professional practice, ethical work, clinical reasoning and practitioner development.

Supervision is treated as a professional and respectful space. Confidentiality, limits of confidentiality, record keeping and any organisational reporting requirements will be discussed clearly at the beginning of the supervision relationship.

For group or organisational supervision, expectations around privacy and shared information are agreed before sessions begin.

Supervision can be especially helpful for new graduates (social workers, child safety officers, case managers, youth workers) who are building confidence, strengthening practice frameworks and adjusting to the emotional and practical demands of human services work.

New graduate supervision may include support with boundaries, documentation, risk, reflective practice, ethical decision-making, role clarity and workplace confidence.

Online supervision is available across Australia at With Grace Therapy.

Online supervision can be a flexible option for busy social workers, case managers. practitioners, regional workers, remote teams or professionals who are not located near our Kedron or Caloundra clinics.

This depends on your role, experience, professional requirements and the complexity of your work.

For accredited social workers, we are required to have a minimum of 10 supervision hours each year.

Some practitioners attend monthly. New graduates and clinicians working with high-risk presentations or workers in complex systems may benefit from more frequent supervision weekly to fortnightly.
