Pregnancy Support Counselling

Pregnancy and becoming a parent (whether it’s your first child or your fourth!) is a profound life transition that touches every part of a person’s world. Emotionally, psychologically, socially, economically, spiritually, and physically, the shifts can be immense. Yet this transition is often under-acknowledged in our society.

When I became pregnant and stepped into motherhood, I was unprepared for how deeply the experience would reshape my identity and sense of self-worth. The sheer volume of information, opinions, and advice was overwhelming, often leaving me with more doubt than clarity. From the moment you see a positive pregnancy test or hear that you’re about to become a parent, everything begins to change.

Pregnancy counselling offers a grounding space to explore your experience with compassion, curiosity, and without judgement. It supports you to understand your values, emotions, and expectations, and helps you strengthen communication and support systems during this significant period of change. This foundation is essential for protecting your wellbeing and sense of identity.

With lived experience as a mother and 15 years of clinical training and practice as a Social Worker, I bring both personal insight and professional understanding to this work. I know how demanding, rewarding, and at times isolating parenthood can be.

Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling is available to anyone who is currently pregnant or has been pregnant within the past 12 months with a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) for Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling. You may be eligible for up to three counselling sessions that attract a Medicare rebate. You are also able to see With Grace Therapy therapists without a referral if you wish.

Pregnancy support counselling is relevant to you if you have concerns such as:

  • making decisions and exploring possible options about the pregnancy
  • coming to terms with unexpected outcomes (e.g. stillbirth, miscarriage, genetic conditions, problems at birth, cot death)
  • dealing with a variety of feelings related to the pregnancy, birth or early months of being a parent
  • discussing the pregnancy with others (such as your partner, parents, children, religious or cultural groups)
  • addressing other medical, social services, legal or financial issues or concerns about pregnancy care, living arrangements, leaving/returning to work, childcare, arrangements of finances.

These sessions provide a safe and supportive space to explore your feelings, experiences, and needs during what can be a complex and emotional time.

At With Grace Therapy, pregnancy support counselling can help you explore your feelings, clarify your needs, and make informed decisions that align with your values. Together, we can build awareness, strengthen confidence, and ensure you feel supported as you navigate pregnancy and the transition into parenthood.
